Project Brazil

The Brazil Project stems from the desire of our founder, Father Pancrazio, to set up a shelter and hospitality center for young people living in favelas in serious situations of hardship, offering them a formation, in the light of the Gospel and in the spirit of the FFB, that would guarantee their integral development.

Our location

We are located in Salvador de Bahia, in the complex of neighborhoods revolving around the Bairro de São Cristóvão, near Salvador’s international airport. It is an area with approximately two hundred thousand inhabitants, all in differing degrees of poverty, some of them very severe.

The population is young – 70 per cent are under 25 – and live in very difficult conditions. It is not easy for young people to break free from poverty and in most cases they are unable, once they grow up, to live in better conditions than their parents.

That is why we strive to support the children and their families, transmitting – in addition to a high-level school education – values, interpersonal skills and cultural competences, in the hope of helping them to change, at least in part, their lives and to offer them the prospect of a more dignified and happy future.

Project

Our aim is the creation of a youth formation center starting from the earliest age up to the end of higher education, throughout the entire training path provided for by Brazilian law.
For each of these stages, an intervention is envisaged that touches the individual in his or her entirety: starting from the spiritual dimension, we are committed to guiding them along a cultural and professional training path, whilst also paying attention to health needs.

The stages are

  • Kindergarten from 4 months to 2 years

    Already realized

  • Infant school from 3 to 5 years

    Already realized

  • Primary school from 6 to 10 years

    To be realized

  • Middle school from 11 to 14 years

    To be realized

  • High school from 15 to 17 years

    To be realized

  • Professional school from 18 years

kindergarten

Our kindergarten, which can accommodate up to 120 children from 4 months to 5 years of age, is highly regarded both by the population and by the Salvador city education department, as well as by philanthropic organizations with whom we collaborate or companies that support us.

In fact, although the quality of teaching is on a par with the best private kindergartens in the city, the service provided, which includes five meals a day (breakfast – snack – lunch – snack – dinner), is totally free. This is possible thanks to donations and funding from Europe (mainly from Italy, Switzerland and Germany) and the support received from the municipality of Salvador for the public service provided free of charge.

We try to improve the kindergarten’s educational proposal day by day by focusing on constant staff training and, above all, by frequently involving parents in the educational activities. Indeed, we believe that a child’s education can be an opportunity for the whole family and the community to grow.
